I joined “I am an amazing woman” but to tell you the truth, I really don’t feel that “amazing”. What I do feel is broken hearted. I am a Mom seeking not only justice for her son Nolan that died tragically while vacationing in Mexico, but I am also seeking ways to make sure that what happened to Nolan NEVER happens to anyone else.
During the past 34 months I have felt every possible emotion. The main emotion is sadness. It still amazes me how much you can miss someone. The death of Nolan is by far the most heart wrenching journey I have ever been on. What scares me the most about this journey is I know it will never end.
What I have done to help me accept Nolan’s death and at the same time somehow “justify” that his death did have a purpose, is to start a non-profit organization named Mexico Vacation Awareness. This organizations mission is to educate unsuspecting travelers about the many unknown dangers of traveling to Mexico. It is also an organization with a website for people to share their stories. As all of the stories come together in one place we are getting stronger. As we get stronger we can demand change. With the help of my Congressman Ed Markey, we now have a bill in Washington. Bill # H.R. 3099, entitled “The International Travelers Bill of Rights act of 2009” was introduced on July 1st. Although the bill is now sitting in committee we are optimistic that it will pass and positive change will begin.
Do I feel amazing? No. But I do feel empowered and determined to make a difference.

To Celebrate Women!
Think about your women friends - you are smiling aren't you? I wanted to start a blog about women, for women and ask all women to participate by sharing stories that celebrate women. This is not to discount men in any way whatsoever, in fact, the opposite. By celebrating and strengthening the resolve of women, we strengthen families and communities. Women nurture their children and give unconditional love and support to their family, friends and partners. Perhaps there are times in our lives where the ability to nurture and support others can be a challenge - that is another reason for this blog. We can share experiences and offer love and support to each other so we can continue to stay true to our core values, living a full and authentic life. When we encounter roadblocks in life, we find ourselves straying away from what we believe - we sometime make decisions that are not in line with our beliefs and core values. By sharing our stories we can offer support without judgment. Let me write that again… without judgment. We can really explore our SELF by knowing that when we share, there will be no judgment. This allows us to delve deeper into self-exploration - which can result in deep learning experiences and create a wisdom about something that is important to share with others.
In order to celebrate women, we need to celebrate ourselves. It may be easy or difficult for you to do the next thing I will ask of you - Stand up, yes, get out of your seat and stand up. Now say – out loud - I AM AN AMAZING WOMAN! What we say - we believe. What we say is the truth. What we say - manifests. So, if you do not believe you are an amazing woman (I beg to differ - as ALL woman are amazing), then stand up and if saying it out loud is too much to start with, start by saying it to yourself. Then when you are ready - whisper it - I am an amazing woman. And when you have whispered it day after day and read other postings from amazing woman (that's where you all come in), you will come to the day where you will STAND UP and say - I AM AN AMAZING WOMAN! Sat. Chit. Ananda. (Love. Knowingness. Bliss.) Make an amazing day! ~Maureen
